| The concept for an Internet-based music lesson scheduling tool was born in 1998 when Menchey Music Service, a 3-store Central PA full-service music dealer realized the opportunities it was missing with its lesson program. Like most music dealers, Menchey offered lessons for years through independent contractors who taught in Menchey studios. Before it had the internet scheduling tool, Menchey had no efficient way of educating its customers about its lesson program or its teachers, contacting its teachers, or proactively scheduling lessons for Menchey customers. Upon further investigation, Menchey realized that many prospective students who couldn't schedule lessons with a Menchey teacher, simply went to a competitor or abandoned musical instruction altogether.
Menchey Music developed the scheduler with the following objectives:
- Develop a system that would reduce the gross inefficiencies of its current system for managing its studios.
- Present, in a standardized format, an interactive database of its entire private lesson program to allow students and their parents to see teacher backgrounds, lesson policies, strengths, tuition rates, and available lesson times.
- Allow students and parents to schedule lessons with these teachers in any of the Menchey stores, over the telephone with any Menchey staff member, or at home on the Internet 24 hours a day, all using the same database.
The results of the project were overwhelmingly positive. Within weeks Menchey Music had total control of its lesson program. Menchey was able to:
- Schedule lessons in real time with all of its teachers.
- Communicate new registrations to its teachers and management.
- Raise profits through increased utilization of teachers and studios and reduced administrative cost.
The project was such a success, that Joel Menchey, President of Menchey Music Service, developed a partnership with Joel Sears, President of Fleet Technologies, Inc. (a technology development firm also located in Central PA) to develop a model that their new firm (Click4Lessons) could market to other music dealers.
At this time, Click4Lessons is able to offer a turnkey, dealer-specific lesson management solution to music dealers and studio operations nationwide. |
